I was born in Siracusa (Sicily), my grandfather was a luthier,
he built mandolins, guitars, violins with love and dedition, caring any details of its 'creatures'
I still own some of those instruments as witnessing of my ethnical rootes.
As a sicilian guy, I started playing tarantella and folk music, but I listened music from all over the world:
Ethnic, Progressive, Classic, West coast, Songwriters, Rock etc..
I studied cello at the 'Conservatorio' which is in Italy the name we traditionally give to the music university,
but I soon felt frustrated by the redundance of that kind of studies which I ended up finding very boring.
I ended studying by myself, obtaining my graduation in Guitar at the 'Conservatorio Luigi Cherubini' of Florence.
During my formation I met some great musicians, real 'Maestro' like Leo Brouwer, Hendrik Hofmeyr, Giancarlo Sicuteri,
from whom I gathered precious lessons about music and life.
I performed in many flamboyant places, Theatres, Halls, luxurious Hotels, etc. sometime playing my music,
otherwise, playing what my committents requested, always with my idea of adapting for guitar anything I heard
and fancied as fit for this little six stringed orchestra.
I composed many orchestral soundtracks for theatre and also performed live with a well known italian stand-up comedian
in many shows all Italy along.
Actually, my job has become teaching, so that, playing nowadays is my moment of joy and sharing my emotions.
I will play for you with enormous pleasure, if you like to listen my music and my arrangements.
Love.. Ranieri
